Home staging is the process of de-personalizing a residence prior to putting it on the market.  This is often achieved by re-arranging, de-cluttering, and improving on certain features.

The goal of staging a home is to help it sell quickly and for the most amount of money by appealing to the largest amount of prospective buyers.  Staging focuses on improving a home's potential by transforming it into a 'neutral' property.  Barb Schwarz, the creator of home staging says, "the way you live in a home and the way we market a home to sell are two different things".  When you stage your home, stage for the buyer and not your personal taste.  Remember, buyers are touring model homes as well as existing homes that are well kept. 

Staging is a marketing tool and is a practical first step in the selling process, especially since the investment of staging your home is far less than the first price reduction.
